Pupil Premium Funding
Pupil Premium – What is it?
Pupil Premium was created in 2011 by the Government. It is additional funding to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities and to close the gaps between them and their peers.
Schools are given a pupil premium for:
• Children who have qualified for free school meals at any point in the past six years. The school receives £1320 for each of these children.
• Children who have been looked after under local authority care for more than one day. These children are awarded a premium of £1900.
A premium has also been introduced for children whose parents are currently serving in the Armed Forces.
Schools can choose how to spend their Pupil Premium money, as they are best placed to identify what would be of most benefit to the children who are eligible.
From September 2014, all children in Reception and Years 1 and 2 qualify for free school meals, regardless of their family income, but only the children who would have qualified for free meals under set income-based criteria will receive the Pupil Premium funding.
If your child qualifies for free school meals, it’s important that you tell us – even if they have a packed lunch – as this enables us to claim Pupil Premium funding and therefore offer your child increased support. Please click the link below to apply.
