School Admissions

Compulsory Age Admissions

Admissions to school, into Reception (Foundation Stage 2), Year 1 and Year 2:

If you would like your child to come to Charlotte Nursery and Infant School, please apply centrally by contacting Derbyshire County Council, we do not process applications through school.

You can apply for a school place online (please list us as your first choice):

https://www.derbyshire.gov.uk/education/schools/school-places/apply-for-a-school-place.aspx

By telephoning:  01629 533190

Any parent who is refused a place has the right of appeal to Derbyshire Local Authority.

We would always encourage you to arrange a visit to Charlotte School prior to applying for a school place. Please call the school office on 0115 932 0970 and speak to Mrs Walsh or Mrs Jackson to arrange a visit. We feel you learn so much about our school by coming to see us in action and look forward to meeting you soon.

If your child has additional needs we are a very inclusive school and our SENCO, Mrs Stevenson, is always happy to talk to parents about how our school can support your child, prior to making a school place application.

Prior to starting Reception parents/carers will be invited to meetings and school visits to enable us to share with you more information about our school and for you to ask any questions.

If you are moving into the area, information about applying for a school place can be found here:

https://www.derbyshire.gov.uk/education/schools/school-places/changing-schools/changing-schools.aspx

Nursery (Foundation Stage 1) Admissions

Our Nursery offers 52 morning places and 52 afternoon places, five days a week. Currently, we do not offer full time places. Children will be offered a nursery place the term after their third birthday (September, January and April).

Applications for a place at our Nursery can be made after your child’s first birthday by telephoning Mrs Walsh or Mrs Jackson on 0115 932 0970.

In the event of oversubscription, the following criteria will be applied, in priority order, to determine which applications are granted places:

  1. ‘Looked-After’ children in Public Care (i.e. foster children).

  2. Children with EHCPs or Forces children.

  3. Children living in the normal area served by the school at the time of application and admission. (Please see the Derbyshire County Council website for a definition of this area)

  4. Children living out of catchment but with siblings attending school.

  5. Other children whose parents have requested a place.

Where choices have to be made between children who have satisfied all of the above criteria equally, those children closest to school age and living nearest to the school will be given preference. (measured by the nearest available route from their front door to the main entrance of the school).

Prior to starting nursery parents/carers will be invited to meetings and visits to enable us to share with you more information about our Nursery and for you to ask any questions. There will also be opportunities for ‘Stay and Play’ where you and your child will be invited to spend time in Nursery.
